Create a new job
Set up a move with the three-step New Job wizard: job details, the shipper, and the origin and destination addresses.
Every inventory lives inside a job. A job is one move for one customer, and you build it with a short three-step wizard: Job details, Shipper, and Addresses. Each step has to be complete before you can move on, and the last step creates the job.
Who this is for: Anyone who sets up moves: crew, estimators, and admins.
Open the wizard
- Go to the Jobs tab.
- Tap the + button in the top-right corner. The New Job wizard opens.
A progress bar and a Step 1 of 3 label sit at the top, so you always know where you are. Use Next and Back to move between steps, and Cancel (top-left) to close without creating a job.
Step 1: Job details
This step covers the logistics of the move: the paperwork numbers, the tag color, where the truck loads, and the truck itself.
| Field | Required? | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Order number | Required | The order number for this move. |
| LOT number | Required | The LOT number for this shipment. |
| Starting item # | Optional | The first inventory number to use. Defaults to 1. Set it to match a pre-numbered tag roll (for example, a roll that starts at 236). |
| Tag color | Required | The color of the physical tags on this shipper's goods. Pick from Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, White, or Gray. |
| Load point | Required | Where the shipment loads: Residence, Storage, or Agent Warehouse. |
| Move type | Optional | Local, Interstate, International, or Storage. Defaults to Local. |
| Truck # | Required | The truck running the move. |
| Agent # (optional) | Optional | The agent number, when your company uses one. |
The footer under this step reads: "Order number, LOT number, tag color, load point and truck # are required."
Note: Truck # and Agent # pre-fill from what this device last used, so the crew doesn't retype them on every job. Order number and LOT number are never pre-filled, because they're unique per shipment and must not be copied onto another inventory.
Tap Next when the required fields are filled. Until then, Next stays disabled.
Step 2: Shipper
In the moving trade the customer is called the shipper, so this step captures the customer's contact details.
| Field | Required? | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| First name | Required | The shipper's first name. |
| Last name | Required | The shipper's last name. This is how the job files A–Z in the Library. |
| Required | The shipper's email. | |
| Phone (optional) | Optional | The shipper's phone number. |
The footer under this step reads: ""Shipper" is the customer. First name, last name and email are required."
Tap Next to continue, or Back to return to job details.
Step 3: Addresses
The last step captures the two ends of the move. Both are required.
| Field | Required? | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Origin address | Required | Where the goods are picked up. |
| Destination address | Required | Where the goods are delivered. |
Tap a field to open the address search sheet. Start typing and pick a live suggestion from Apple Maps, or type the address by hand. See Job fields explained for how the address search sheet works.
The footer under this step reads: "Both addresses are required."
Create the job
On the final step the Next button becomes Create job. Tap it. The app saves the job and files it in your Jobs list and Library, and you feel a confirmation tap on the device.
Result: The new job appears at the top of the Jobs tab with an Estimate status, ready for you to start capturing inventory.
Good to know
- You can't skip required fields. The Next and Create job buttons stay disabled until the current step's required fields are filled.
- Everything is editable later. Nothing here is locked. Open the job and choose Edit job to change any field. See Edit, duplicate, change status, or delete a job.
- Starting item # sets the numbering. Every piece is numbered up from this value, and numbers are never reused.
