Location symbols

The 19 numbered van-line location symbols that pin a condition code to a specific part of an item, plus what it means to leave the location off.

A location symbol is a number, 1 through 19, that says where on an item a condition code applies. It prints in front of the code on the inventory, so 6CH reads "leg, chipped" and 10SC reads "top, scratched."

For how you build a condition line from a location and a code, see How damage codes work and The Item Editor.

No location means the whole item

The location is optional. A condition code with no location applies to the item as a whole, and it prints as just the code (for example SC with no number). Cartons and boxes never carry a location, so a box condition is always whole-item.

All 19 location symbols

The plural form is used when the damage affects more than one of a part, for example both arms or several shelves.

Number Location Plural
1 Arm Arms
2 Bottom Bottoms
3 Corner Corners
4 Front Fronts
5 Left Lefts
6 Leg Legs
7 Rear Rears
8 Right Rights
9 Side Sides
10 Top Tops
11 Veneer Veneers
12 Edge Edges
13 Center Centers
14 Inside Insides
15 Seat Seats
16 Drawer Drawers
17 Door Doors

Note: On screen, a location reads with its full word, for example "Leg" or "Arms." The number is what prints in the compact code on the inventory and in the symbol key.

Common furniture subset

The Item Editor shows these locations first, in this order, because they are the parts a furniture crew reaches for most. The full 19 stay available behind More.
